Safecast is a global project working to empower people with data that is accessible and easy to understand.
Shortly after the the Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster on 3/11/2011, our team recognized a lack of consistent data regarding radiation levels. In response, Uncorked Studios launched RDTN.org – a site designed to collect and display aggregate radiation levels. The first version of the site launched within 72 hours. The site evolved into Safecast— a global organization that combines the efforts of a group of volunteers, as well as numerous technology and disaster experts.
Before RDTN rebranded to Safecast, the group raised $36,900 on Kickstarter for the creation of a large network of standard Geiger counters to collect valuable data for the website aggregation.
With a our first face-to-face meeting in Tokyo, the Safecast team recognized the importance of having a brand presence. As a part of that brand, Uncorked developed a logo for the organization. This work, alongside the new name Safecast, brought shape to a group built upon providing accurate data to people who had one basic question - Are we safe?
