He founded Uncorked Studios to create projects that expand the boundaries of mobile, social and location-awareness in our daily lives.

He is a proud Portlander, though sometimes misses the Miami sun. His year old lab mix, Luke, is the unofficial Uncorked Studios mascot.

Since moving to Portland, David has helped Target, HP, Nike, Cisco and EA Games build forward-thinking products for people. He’s an avid photographer, and uses the art to draw connections between people and the designed world.

Jason Whitford

Senior Mobile Developer

Jason Whitford is a Senior Mobile Developer with years of experience across iOS, Android, and Windows Mobile platforms. More than just an engineering, Jason sees himself as designer of code.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys hiking, listening to music, eating good food and sipping coffee with his family and two cats Otis and Jet. His goal is to work across a variety of platforms and media, including original concepts, client concepts, and discover solutions to technical problems that balance out user needs with functional requirements while still looking beautiful.

Sam Royston

Developer

Before joining Uncorked Studios, Sam was a student at the nearby Lewis and Clark college. During his senior year at college, with a bunch of ideas that he wasn’t sure how to implement, Sam began learning Objective-C and iOS development. Mobile development is engaging for Sam because of the previously non-existent combination of location awareness, web connectivity, a host of sensors, and a powerful chip to process it all. The sum of these parts is an unprecedented conduit for sending physical data to the digital world and vice versa. Aside from iOS development, Sam is always trying to find ways to incorporate microcontrollers, networks, web design, and machine learning in Uncorked Studios’ pursuit of physical/digital integration.

Sam was born and raised in New York City. The Produce Row district where Uncorked is located reminds him of parts of lower Manhattan that were his previous stomping grounds. In his spare time, Sam works on personal projects, searches for new creative outlets, and loves to play the piano. Studying the piano accounts for a huge portion of Sam’s work in college; the Russian Romantics are his favorite, but his musical tastes range from Bach to Hova.

Sam attended the Bronx High School of Science in New York and Lewis and Clark College in Portland where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics.

Katarina Mitchell

Developer

Kat is a recent graduate of Iowa State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering. Throughout her years there, she had the fortune of working on a diverse set of projects. Some of her favorites include programming Roombas to navigate an obstacle course, using FPGA circuits to design a CPU, and her senior design project, designing and developing touchscreen interfaces for home appliances. Now that she has graduated, she hopes to learn the ins-and-outs of mobile design and development with the talented and imaginative minds at Uncorked Studios.

Kat was raised in Iowa where she gained an appreciation for sweet corn and Indian summers. She takes every opportunity to travel, whether it’s to a nearby city or across the globe. In her free time, she enjoys baking delicious treats, singing in the shower, experimenting with new technology, and playing with her parakeet, Broccoli.
